Over time, El Poblado (Medellín) has been characterized as an attractive neighborhood for foreigners and city residents alike. Its appeal is due to the diverse hotel zone located in the area, commercial growth, a wide gastronomic offering, and the close proximity between various points of interest. Tourists, depending on the purpose of their visit, often prefer to stay in places where they can easily access restaurants, gyms, shopping malls, supermarkets, and more. Here, we tell you how the commercial areas of El Poblado have grown.
How Has the Economic Reactivation of the Area’s Commercial Zones Been?
After the pandemic, and with the aim of boosting the economy and supporting local merchants, the Medellín Mayor’s Office implemented several strategies to strengthen the sector. In neighborhoods such as Astorga, Manila, and Provenza, some vehicular roads were converted into pedestrian streets, allowing visitors to enjoy more than 3,000 square meters of open-air spaces with a wide commercial offering. The areas intervened include Carrera 43B between Streets 8 and 9, Carrera 43E between Streets 11A and 12, and Carrera 35 with Street 10.
This initiative has impacted more than 150 restaurants and commercial businesses and has also been an opportunity to recover jobs lost during the months of the pandemic.
It has also generated high appreciation rates and strong commercial demand. Commercial premises for rent in El Poblado have been the most requested properties by local merchants, and currently, vacancy in these spaces has been fully absorbed.
